Project kick-off

The story behind the Crazy bikers sprouted from the mind of Filip Mertens, wine lover and biker, several years ago while lying in the Spanish sun. A raw sketch on a napkin was drawn and the first step was made. The sketch ended up in a drawer somewhere, but the idea never left Filip’s mind. It was when Filip teamed up with Danny Van Regenmortel that everything came into a rush. Danny wrote a small profile of each of the characters they had in mind. The next step was finding the right person to turn these thoughts in to reality.

Steven Scot, an amazing freelance artist who used to work for big names as DC & Marvel Comics, was really excited to take on this project. Making drawings for wine labels was a first for him. Once the first sketches were finished, Steven’s wife Hanna Auer took it to the next level by using amazing colours to make the bikers and the scenery come to life.

William – Bossy Bill – long was the one who 

“We knew from the start that Vina Elena was the right partner for this project. It is a family-owned winery with an incredible love and passion for the wines and the vineyards. Fernando Pacheco is the 4^th generation of the Pacheco family. We felt the same excitement for the project that we had. Without hesitating we flew to the winery to go over the project, taste the wines and assemble the blends.”

A personal touch

All the bikers are named after someone in our inner circle.

Bossy Bill is named after William Long, he’s our Spanish connection and has been a trusted business partner for years. Bill’s bike is the same as the one Filip’s MC Smoking Sunchasers President has.

Big Lou is named after Danny’s son Louie, he was 5 at the time. His imagination runs wild, and he often compared himself to the Hulk. Big Lou fits the profile perfectly.

Lucky Leo is the 1st born son of winemaker Ignacio Marin. To emphasize. A tribute to our winemaker.

Sexy Sue was a difficult one, the idea was to create a fun and beautiful blonde woman. While we were discussing the matter with artist Steven, he suggested a Scarlett Johanssen look and the next thing we knew, Sue was born.

Fat Jack is named after Filip’s godson Jack. Little Jack was born in 2021 and is a lot cuter than the Jack on our label, luckily for him! We do hope that little Jack will turn out just as tall and strong as Fat Jack is.
